Rugby Half Marathon

Sunshine replaced the rain of the previous few days as over 700 runners lined up in Rugby Town Centre for the annual half marathon.

Starting in the town centre the route took the athletes out through country lanes around Barby and in part along the former route of the Great Central Railway, now a country park, before finishing in the town. The race was won by local Rugby athlete Ben Musgrove in 74.24.

Recovering from a painful illness Leamington C & AC’s Natalie Bhangal decided to see if she was on the road to recovery was delighted with her performance. Starting hard and hoping to hold on for as long as possible,  Natalie was well up the field just behind the leading group of men. Eventually crossing the line in 30th place of the 724 finishers Natalie was delighted to have won the ladies race in 87.21, some 39 seconds in front of Wigston’s Louise Gibson in 88.00.

Frankfurt Marathon

A typical autumnal day greeted Chris Hitchman and fellow competitors in this years Frankfurt marathon.   This was the first marathon for Chris since his slightly disappointing run in the New York marathon in 2016.  An event free race was the aim for Chris, dry but cold weather turned to showers with a slight wind in the second half of the race.  The early above pace miles did not have too much of a negative effect in the later stages, with Chris finishing in 3:14:52.  Finishing off a road season which has seen a partial recovery in form for Chris.  Bekele Tefera won the Frankfurt in the slowest time in last ten year in 2:07:08.
