In almost perfect weather conditions, the Warwickshire County Track and Field Championships, held at the Pingles Athletics Track in Nuneaton took place at the weekend. Leamington C&AC saw a succession of medal positions over the two-day event along with a number of their own club records being broken. Jai Sispal came first in the heats for the U15 80m hurdles and then went on to take silver in the finals in new personal best of 11:97. Sispal had a great weekend also winning the 1500m in a new PB of 4:32:18 and taking gold in the 800m in a time of 2:09:57 which was also a personal best.

Charlie Eastaugh took the silver medal in the senior men’s 1500m and was happy to finish in a personal best of 4:03:89. Melanie Gould competed in the 3000m event for the first time and took the lead with three laps to go. She finished first in 11:32:57. Gould returned the next day to race the 1500m and was happy with a 5thplaced position and a PB of 5:16:48. Paul Andrew showed his usual fine form to finish first in the senior 3000m and Alex Ibbs managed a seasons best and a win in the U20 800m in a time of 2:03:56. Phil Gould took first place in the senior men’s 3000m steeplechase. Hannah Cooper finished second in the U13 girls 200m sprint.

Sam Morrey was happy with a personal best in his 200m and qualified for the final of the 200m. Robin Greenwood also achieved personal best times in the 75m hurdles and the 200m.

Ben Hawkes had ran a fast 400m to take gold in a time of 49:38. Hawkes’ time also saw the first club record over the weekend, a record that had stood since 1990.

The medals kept coming in the field events with Cameron Williams-Stein taking control of the pole vault to equal the club record that he holds himself with a jump of 3.20m. Megan Marsh was delighted to come second in the U13 javelin event throwing a distance of 21.36m which was almost 3 metres over her previous throws. Marsh also claimed the club record which had been held by Lauren Ashbourne since 2013 for that age category. Ashbourne herself achieved a silver medal in the U20 discus over the weekend with fellow club-mate Sophie Hunt taking gold with a throw of 28.82. Ella Bower jumped a height of 1.40m in the U13 girls high jump event taking a silver medal. Sam Morrey was pleased with a silver in the U13 boys shot achieving a personal best of 5.99.

Sunday saw the younger athletes competing in a Quadkids event with James Gould, Finn Williams-Stein and Ishan Carson. James ran an impressive race in the 600m to win in a time of 1:55:03 breaking the club record.

Shamira Naidu-Young managed to break the 4-hour barrier in the Stratford marathon on Sunday finishing in a time of 3:58:25.

Gavin Fowler took part in the Worcester Sprint Triathlon, consisting of 750m Swim, 30km Bike and 5km Run. Fowler finished third overall which was his first podium finish in the event. His overall time was 1:27:20.
