Andrew Savery of Leamington C&AC led from the outset in the Kenilworth Half Marathon on Sunday. A new course which saw runners start and finish in the town centre, the half marathon then followed it’s usual route out and back along the quiet roads behind the town and into Beausale. The slightly warm conditions did not seem to worry Savery who managed to distance himself from the leading pack to finish in 1:12:51. Paul Andrews followed him home in 10th with Richard Merrell 16th. Under 20 athlete Greg West put in a strong performance to finish 18th in his second ever race over the 13.1 miles. 5th home for the club was Vassilis Andreoulakis in 21st with youngster Dean Mawby showing a superb sprint finish to cross the line in 29th. The 6 runners earned valuable points for the purposes of the Warwickshire Road Race League which sees it’s final race of the season on 7th October at Rugby.
Leamington ladies were also out in force at the event, Natalie Bhangal having to accept 5th position due to a surprisingly competitive ladies field. Jenny Jeeves was in usual fine form finishing 11th whilst Wendy Daniels and Courtney Depala finished 31st and 38th respectively.
Other LCAC runners: Stephen Hundal, Jason Hill, John knibb, Brian Miller, Andrew Cooknell, Christ Hitchman, Simon West, Steven Roberts, Saffia Del Torre, Jane Perkin and Shamira Naidu-Young.
