LC&AC’s coaching team is one of the strongest at any community athletics club in the Midlands — 14 UKA qualified coaches covering every discipline, from sprints and throws to endurance, jumps, pole vault and junior athletics.
Our coaches range from England Athletics National Coach of the Year to current British record holders and coaches whose athletes have competed at Paralympic and Commonwealth Games level. Every coach brings genuine expertise and a passion for developing athletes at every level.

Throws Coaches

David Ashbourne
Lead Throws Coach · Club Chair
David founded the LC&AC throws group in 2014 after identifying a gap in the club’s provision for field event athletes. A UKA Event Group Throws coach, three of his athletes have represented Warwickshire at the English Schools Track & Field Championships in Birmingham. David also serves as Club Chair and as a Field Official.

Joshua Bain
Throws Coach · F37 Para-Athlete · British Record Holder (Shot Put & Discus)
Joshua holds British records in both shot put and discus and has represented GB at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. He joined LC&AC in 2023 and leads the rotational throws and strength and conditioning programme.
Joseph Walker
Throws Coach · UKA Level 4 Javelin · 40+ Years Coaching
One of the most experienced throws coaches in the Midlands. Joseph’s most celebrated athlete is Karen Martin, who won the silver medal in javelin at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Lin McGreavy
Sprint Coach · 60m–400m
Lin coaches LC&AC’s main sprint group — a friendly mixed age and ability group covering the full range of sprint events. Sessions are planned around the athletics calendar and include drills, block starts and a mix of shorter and longer sprint work. New athletes complete a four week trial.

Christine McAleenan
Sprint Coach · 200m–400m · Coaching Coordinator
Christine brings first-hand experience of 400m and 400m hurdles competition to her coaching. Her group focuses on 300m and 400m, welcoming athletes competing over 200m. Christine also serves as the club’s Coaching Coordinator.

Les Barnett
Performance Endurance Coach · England Athletics Services to Athletics Award 2021
Les coaches performance endurance athletes at LC&AC. Winner of the England Athletics National Services to Athletics Award in 2021, Les brings both coaching expertise and a deep commitment to the sport and club that has been formally recognised at the highest national level.
Jim Rothman
Endurance Coach · Faster Endurance Group
Jim coaches the faster endurance group for experienced athletes targeting competitive times from 800m to marathon. The group is aimed at athletes capable of sub-18 minutes for 5k who want to push their performance further.

Simon West
Endurance Coach · Welcome Group
Simon coaches the Welcome Group — the entry point for new and developing adult runners. Sessions focus on building fitness, endurance and wellbeing in an inclusive environment. All abilities welcome with four free sessions offered without obligation.

Chris Hitchman
Endurance Coach · Club Treasurer
Chris coaches within the endurance programme at LC&AC. He also serves as Club Treasurer — one of several coaches who contribute both on the track and in the club’s administration.

Katherine Stein
Pole Vault & Jumps Coach · UKA Event Group JUMPS COACH
Katharine coaches the LC&AC pole vault group and is supporting the development of the new jumps group covering long jump, triple jump and high jump. A UKA qualified coach in both disciplines, Katharine’s group welcomes athletes from Year 6 to masters level with no previous experience required.

Junior Pathway
Junior athletes please note: All U14 athletes joining Leamington C&AC are expected to begin in the U14 Run Jump Throw group coached by Tom Gould before progressing to specialist event groups. This ensures every young athlete develops a strong all-round athletic base before specialising in endurance.
