JUNIOR ATHLETICS @ Leamington C&AC

Junior Athletics is aimed at Primary School children and our main aim is to have FUN!!!

All athletes are coached in fundamental movement skills, agility, balance, and coordination. Coaches also use games to keep training fun and help athletes learn the technical aspects of all track and field events. The children are organized into school year groups so that they can be coached more effectively.

The Pathway

In a nutshell, this is the club pathway for all young athletes based on their age when joining the club.

RUN – JUMP – THROW groups!

U9 (years 1/2/3) –  develop movement skills; agility, balance, and coordination through games/challenges and basic run-jump-throw and relays. This group is small and priority to siblings of current members.

U11 (year 4/5) Learn warm-ups, running drills and are introduced to technical aspects of all events, through challenges. This group has opportunities to compete in Club Quad Kids and School Cross Country events.

  • Please note, due to current capacity in u9 and U11 athletes are only allowed to attend one session per week.

RUN – JUMP – THROW and Performance squads!

U13 (year 6/7) Develop their skills in practising all events and assessed on the technical aspects of all events. At this age athletes can train twice a week, the 2nd session being their chosen event. This group is also encouraged to compete in the Young Athletes Development League, West Midland Cross Country, and Road Relays.

Performance squads!

U15+ (year 8+) Develop their skills in a chosen event area with an experienced coach. Athletes can choose which event area they’d like to focus on, Running, Sprinting, Throwing, or jumping. Coaches will encourage competition and regular training commitments.
